[라이프롱잉글리쉬] 초 4 과학 발표 과제 (Grade 4 Science Extra Credit-Presentation)

미국 캘리포니아 초등학교 4학년 2학기 커리큘럼에 Natural Disasters(자연재해) 에 관해 배우는 시기가 왔다. 바로 몇 주전 온 세계를 경악하게 한 일본의 지진과 쓰나미 사건과 맞물려 수정이네 반에서는 바로 Earthquakes, Tsunamis 에 관해 가산점 프로젝트가 진행되었다.

수정이는 여러가지 주제 중, 'Causes and Effects of Tsunami(쓰나미의 원인과 결과)' 를 골랐고, Science Textbook 을 먼저 읽고 개념을 정리한 후, 웹 서핑을 통해 리서치를 하고, 포스터를 만들었다.

2. Making an Outline for Presentation
    a. Definition of Tsunamis
       

 

 

        Tsunamis are giant waves, initiated by a sudden change (usually in relative position 
        of underwater tectonic plates). 
   
    b. Places where Tsunamis occur
       

        Tsunamis occur most frequently in the Pacific, due to the large tectonically active
        zones. Severe tsunamis can though happen in geologically less active oceans, such
        as the Indian Ocean or the Mediterranean. 

    c. How do Tsunamis occur?

        The illustration below shows a subduction earthquake (one where a denser plates
        shifts below its neighboring plate, at left). Energy is transferred and the displaced  
        water forms a wave. As the wave travels and enters shallower water in the coastal
